Michael Cole's View

This 1970 Chevrolet Corvette represents a unique opportunity to own a well-documented, one-owner classic with significant mechanical upgrades. With its 502ci V8 engine, custom paintwork, and careful preservation, this Corvette offers both vintage appeal and modern performance enhancements. Although the odometer and clock no longer function, and an electric vacuum pump is needed for full operation of the headlights and wiper cover, the car remains a strong performer with a rich history. The vehicle has been driven less than 1,000 miles since its restoration, ensuring that it remains in excellent mechanical condition for its next owner. Preview: This 1970 Chevrolet Corvette is a one-owner vehicle, originally purchased in Indianapolis in November 1970. The car originally came equipped with a 454ci V8 engine producing 390 HP but was replaced with a 502ci.  It has a wide-ratio 4-speed manual transmission and a 3.36 positraction rear end. The Corvette was built without power brakes, power steering, or air conditioning, emphasizing its raw, performance-focused design. Over the years, the car has traveled from Indianapolis to San Diego, California, and even spent time in storage in England before returning to the United States.

Exterior: The Corvette’s exterior was repainted in 2000 by Phil’s Auto Body in Santa Cruz, California, in a 2000 Jaguar Platinum color. The paintwork includes four coats of clear coat for added durability and gloss. The car features custom pinstriping done by a professional, recognizable by the artist’s signature 3 dots and ‘z’ pattern. The body is otherwise as it was originally, with no noted modifications to the exterior panels or structure.

Interior: The interior of this Corvette remains largely original, with only minor updates over the years. The odometer reads 57,500 miles, which reflects the mileage at the time of the extensive restoration work around 2000. The actual mileage is estimated to be around 58,500 due to limited use since then. The interior includes an aftermarket radio, and while the clock is non-functional, the rest of the instrumentation is intact. The car retains its original features, with the exception of the non-operational clock and the need for an electric vacuum pump to fully operate the headlights and windshield wiper cover.

Mechanical: Mechanically, the car has undergone significant upgrades. Around 2000, the original 454 engine was replaced with a 502ci V8 crate engine from Race Street Rally,  which was balanced and fitted with a ‘Pure Energy’ cam from Competition Cams Inc that does have a noticeable “lope”- can feel the cam kick in at about 3200 RPM. The engine also includes Brodix heads, an Edelbrock hi-rise manifold, Hooker headers, and a Holley 750 CFM “double pumper” carburetor. The car is equipped with a new wide-ratio 4-speed transmission, a new 3.36 positraction rear end, and new brake calipers with stainless steel inserts. Additional upgrades include a high-capacity oil pan from Dan Olson Racing Products, a new fuel tank, and an electric fuel pump with a low oil pressure cut-off switch.
